“Did he lie about loving her?” The soul whispered to the heart.
“Maybe he didn’t mean it as much as we thought he did” The heart, one of her three best friends whispered back.
Almost like it was a slap in her face, the girl sucked air in and held the arm chair tighter.
Why? Why did he not love me the same?
“The matter of the fact is that he didn’t love you as much as He thought he did” Stated the brain. Fresh lime juice over a burnt wound.
“Maybe he did love you Naomi, but he….fell out?” the soul reasoned. She looked up at the ceiling and pursed her lips. The soul immediately knew it shouldn’t have said that.
Fell out? That was the worst possibility of them all. It would mean that he did love her at a point and then…didn’t. What did she do wrong? How did he just fall out so easily? Their relationship was so strong a moment ago but now it doesn’t exist. What?
“Why did he fall out of love? I mean he stuck around through worse times than this and it was a simple argument, right? Maybe he didn’t ever love me to begin with” Naomi finally added to the conversation.
“You are right, I agree! I think he just acted the whole way, never really loved” Spat out the heart in vengeance. It was hurt and needed someone to else to be hurt with it. Naomi was an easy target.
Out of all the possibilities presented this one was the most acceptable one. Though it hurt quite the same, if not more. Maybe he never loved her.
“You know, I was the stupid one to believe him. I am sorry guys but maybe he never loved us, I tried keeping my guard up and I gave it time and I did everything right. I didn’t give in to him too much, I didn’t run away. I stuck through difficult times. Why did this still happen? It was so stupid of me to stick with him. I was so stupid to love him, so dumb. I gave him so much time! So much energy, Why! Why did I fall for him? Why did this happen!” She ranted and suddenly everyone was too exhausted to answer.
They looked at the floor as silence hung heavy on their shoulders. Their mind was running wild with imagination, to search for a reason, a sensible reason. Anything that could make this a tad bit more sensible.
Slowly…The heart whispered in a tiny voice “If he didn’t love you….why did he fight for you, why did he stay when he didn’t need to?”
The heartbroken girl gasped at the memories the brain played for her. They seemed so far away, so small, sooo….happy.
“Yeah, he even stayed up nights for you to be okay. When he had a job the next day” the soul added
“I agree, You realise how many hours you spent talking to him? Your phone bill increased” the brain reasoned.
“You know for someone that didn’t love you he did a lot for you” heart concluded.
“Maybe he did that just to mess with Naomi What if he is the kind of person that finds pleasure in other’s sufferings?”
The heart gasped “You be strong okay? Don’t show him your weakness”.
“He is not that kind of guy, he got teary when Naomi cried I am pretty sure he didn’t want to hurt her” the soul took its stance.
“Then why did he?” The heart countered.
“Humans make mistakes” the soul replied.
“but if you forgive him this time, he might do it again” brain countered.
“How do you know that? Maybe this will affect him so much he won’t ever do this again.
I say you should really give him a chance” the heart pleaded.
“A chance?” the brain laughed “ He will just keep hurting us again and again. Just leave him! Don’t look back!”
“Maybe we should calm down and look at the situation….” the soul interfered.
“You know he loves you, right?” The heart added.
“He does not love her! He acted like he did” the brain spat back.
“I felt it through me! He genuinely cared” the soul screamed.
“How does it matter? I love him! That’s enough!” the heart screamed, now agitated.
“Stop being stupid, heart. We are in this because of you!”
“Me?”
“Stop this guys, now is not the time”
“Yes, you! If you didn’t feel so much for him she wouldn’t let him in”
“Then she’d be lonely forever!”
“She won’t be lonely forever even when she’d be better alone though” the brain stated deadpanned.
“Well, that is exactly what you want right?”
“Guys, please. Look at her, she is already suffering just…”
“Of course I want that, She just doesn’t need anyone” the brain screamed back.
“Of course she does! Why do you need to always act so smart and stuffy”
“Cause I am the only one smart here! You cannot even think.”
Among all the screams and fights in a silent room, a phone beep was heard.
“Guys Guys Guys stop! He messaged”
She picked the phone up with a heavy sigh. It felt heavier than its weight.
“I am sorry baby, Can we please talk and sort it out?”
Silence.
She looked up at her three best friends, all three waiting for her response. She could feel everything that was running through their minds. All three waited eagerly with their faces turned towards her.
She bit her bottom lip. The soul sighed, the heart grinned and the brain rolled its eyes with disgust. Yet it was unable to keep it’s small smile hidden though.
The phone rang again and she looked at three of her best friends and hit the green button.
