This is a short poem written from the point of view of a girl that is finally growing up and how understanding the cliche’s of the world aren’t actual realities. How loving yourself is alot more important than finding someone to love you.
I hope you enjoy it!

As a kidI believed in fairytalesWhere a prince would rescue meAnd I would heal himBut reality struck hardAnd no one came to save meI got sick of playing the victimAnd got myself out of the tall palaceAs a kidI believed in fairytalesWhere a prince would injure himselfAnd I would heal himBut reality struck hardAnd I realised the prince isn’t the only one with scars,That I cannot heal anythingAnd He didnt want to always be healedMuch less he could never get rid of the scarsNo matter what he took from me
As a kidI believed in fairytalesWhere love would always have a happy endWhere after a few blowsThings would be like a magical worldBut reality struck hardAnd I understood why couples fell apartBlows, punches and knivesAre thrown again and againat those that loveEach one aiming straight for the heartAs a kid I believed in fairytalesAnd sadly,Now, I dontCause this push and pull game isn’t my only aimI have places to reachAnd things to achieveA prince just drags me downIf ever, I want a kingBecause reality did strike hardAnd I realisedI simply cannot letlove destroyWhat’s left of my heart
